More than 2,000 delegates gathered this Saturday at the headquarters of the FPR-Inkotanyi in Rusororo for the Sixth National Congress of the party’s Women’s League, in a powerful demonstration of unity, reflection, and forward-looking commitment to national development.

The congress was attended by First Lady Jeannette Kagame, who delivered a keynote address highlighting the indispensable role of women in Rwanda’s liberation struggle and ongoing development journey.

“No one can speak of FPR-Inkotanyi without acknowledging the role of women and their children in the struggle to liberate Rwanda,” she said.

“Their contribution continues to shape the unity, resilience, and progress we see today.”

Delivering the opening remarks, the First Vice Chairperson of the FPR-Inkotanyi, Hon. Uwimana Consolée, emphasized that while Rwanda has made remarkable progress over the years, there is still significant work ahead. She underscored the critical role women must continue to play alongside men in shaping the country’s future.

“Despite the strong development our country has achieved, much remains to be done. Women must remain active partners with men in building our nation,” she said.

She further reminded participants of the historical responsibility they carry, noting that the FPR-Inkotanyi laid the foundation for a dignified and united Rwanda.

“The FPR-Inkotanyi gave us a country and restored our dignity. It is our duty to safeguard that legacy,” she added.

Held under the theme “Women: The Foundation of the Family,” the congress provided a platform for participants to reflect on the central role women play not only within families but also in nation-building.

Discussions focused on strengthening women’s participation in leadership, social cohesion, and economic development.

The FPR-Inkotanyi Women’s League operates through three main structures: the National Congress, the General Assembly, and the Executive Committee. This organizational framework ensures that women’s voices remain integral to the party’s vision and Rwanda’s broader development agenda.

As the congress continues, delegates are expected to outline strategies that will further empower women and reinforce their role as pillars of both the family and the nation.
