President Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame on Sunday attended the men’s singles final of the ATP Rwanda 100 Challenger at IPRC Kicukiro, marking a highlight of the third edition of the international tennis tournament hosted in Rwanda.

The final saw Argentina’s Marco Trungelliti defeat Italy’s Marco Cecchinato, securing the championship in front of tennis fans and dignitaries gathered at the Kigali venue.

The ATP Challenger 100 tournament took place over the course of a week and followed the recently concluded ATP Challenger 75, which ran from March 2 to March 8.

Together, the two tournaments attracted 66 players from 20 different countries, underscoring Rwanda’s growing reputation as a destination for international sporting events and professional tennis competitions.

The ATP Challenger events form part of the global ATP Challenger Tour, which provides a competitive platform for professional players seeking to earn ranking points and progress to higher-level tournaments on the ATP circuit.

Rwanda has increasingly positioned itself as a hub for sports tourism and international competitions, with the Rwanda Challenger tennis series now entering its third edition.

The presence of President Kagame and the First Lady at the final highlighted the country’s continued support for sports development and international sporting partnerships.

The tournaments were held under the banner #RwandaChallenger, bringing together players, officials and fans from across the world for two weeks of competitive tennis in Kigali.
