The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has officially announced the appointment of Stephen Constantine as the head coach of the national football team, Amavubi, on a two-year contract.

This marks Constantine’s second tenure with the team, following a memorable but tumultuous spell in 2014.

Constantine first took charge of Rwanda in 2014, immediately making an impact by guiding the team to a stunning 3-0 victory over Libya in his debut match.

He followed this up with a decisive win against Congo Brazzaville, putting Rwanda on the verge of qualifying for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

However, the team was controversially disqualified after Congo filed a complaint over player Dady Birori, who was found to have been registered under two identities, leading to Rwanda’s exit from the tournament.

Football fanatics are already in jovial mood as all hopes for Amavubi team win is casted on him.

“Am a fan of Amavubi for over 20 years, but before i clap hands for the govermmet to sign constatine, let me tell fans not to over expect miracles faster faster, because he has a big challenge to put Amavubi back on track,” say Albert Mucyo.

“Constantine is a good coach and with all the support with the team, governemt and Rwandan, i have no doubt that he will put a smile back on our faces cheering the triumph of Amavubi” says Peter Mugisha, a fan of Amavubi

Known for his tactical acumen and experience in African football, Constantine now faces the challenge of rebuilding the team and aiming for successful qualification in upcoming fixtures.

Under his guidance, Amavubi will participate in the FIFA Series, facing Kenya, Estonia, and Grenada.

These matches are scheduled to take place from March 26 to 31, 2026.
