AFC/M23 has announced the death of its military spokesperson, Comrade Willy Ngoma, in what it described as tragic circumstances near Rubaya in the early hours of February 24, 2026.

In an official communiqué issued Tuesday, Alumba Lukamba Omokoko, Director of Cabinet, said that Ngoma died at approximately 3:00 a.m. The statement characterized his death as occurring under “tragic circumstances” but did not provide additional operational details regarding the incident.

AFC/M23 expressed strong criticism of the government in Kinshasa, accusing it of failing to honor commitments, particularly those related to the Doha framework agreement.

It said it was drawing the attention of both national and international communities to what it described as a “flagrant disregard” for its engagements.

The group extended condolences to what it called the “revolutionary community” of the Democratic Republic of Congo and to Ngoma’s biological family, praising him as a figure who dedicated his life to the struggle for social justice and national cohesion.

Willy Ngoma had served as the military spokesperson within the political coordination of AFC/M23, a coalition active in eastern Congo.

His death marks a significant development for the movement amid ongoing tensions in the region.

No official statement had been released by authorities in Kinshasa at the time of publication
