AU Commission President Orders Kinshasa &AFC/M23 Return to Political Dialogue

Mahmoud Ali youssouf the AU Commission President has ordered the Kinshasa authorities and the AFC/M23 rebels to silence guns and return to political dialogue.

He called on the AFC/M23 to immediately cease all hostilities, to renounce the use of indiscriminate means and methods of warfare, and to strictly comply with the commitments made as part of the ongoing peace efforts.

He urged all concerned parties to proceed, without delay and in good faith, to the full implementation of the Doha Agreement, as the essential foundation for an effective ceasefire, a sustainable de-escalation, and a return to political dialogue.

Meanwhile in November 2025, the Doha Framework for Peace, was signed in Qatar between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) government and the M23 movement (Congo River Alliance) aimed at ending the conflict in eastern DRC.

The Peace deal establishes a permanent ceasefire, outlines de-escalation steps, and focuses on humanitarian relief.

The accord seeks to resolve the root causes of the conflict in the eastern DRC through structured, ongoing dialogue.

However the agreement has been violated by both sides on several occasions.
