AFC/M23 Rebels Revive Beer Production in Bukavu City

Beer production in Bukavu City in South Kivu has been revived after several months of inactivity at the brewery which was Looted and destroyed by the fleeing government troops and allies.

Taarifa has established that Bralima Bukavu, which was recently sold by Heineken to Synergy Ventures Holdings Ltd (Mauritius), will on Friday roll out of production line its first beer product and launch it on the market.

Trucks loaded with crates of bralima brewery have been seen traversing within the city seemingly delivering products to various distributors.

Bukavu of a pre-war population of about 2 million people was seized by the AFC/M23 fighters in mid February last year.

The city now under the administration of AFC/M23 is undergoing ambitious transformation.

The rebel alliance also controls Goma city the North Kivu Provincial capital with also a population of over 2 million.

On Jan. 31, 2025 the rebel alliance captured the city of Goma in the eastern DRC.

Corneille Nangaa, leader of the rebels alliance declared after seizure of Goma that they were there to stay and would march to the DRC’s capital of Kinshasa.

The rebel alliance fighters recently captured Uvira City the administrative capital of South Kivu province but unilaterally pulled out in respect for the Washington agreement signed between Rwanda and the DRC.
