The State of Qatar has categorically rejected the announcement of mutual recognition between the Israeli occupation authorities and the Somaliland region, describing the move as a dangerous and unilateral action that violates international law and undermines Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Qatar said the recognition contravenes established principles of international legitimacy and directly threatens the sovereignty of the sisterly Federal Republic of Somalia.
Doha stressed that any attempt to establish or impose parallel entities would weaken Somalia’s unity and destabilize the region.
The ministry reaffirmed Qatar’s full support for Somalia’s legitimate institutions and its commitment to preserving the country’s security and stability, emphasizing solidarity with the Somali people and their national interests.
Qatar also sharply criticized the Israeli authorities, arguing that it would be more appropriate for Israel to recognize the State of Palestine, whose right to establish an independent state on its national territory is widely recognized by the international community.
The statement called on Israel to work toward a sustainable end to the war in the Gaza Strip rather than pursuing policies that undermine international legitimacy and fuel further tensions and instability.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar’s unwavering position in support of Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and renewed its call for adherence to international law and respect for relevant international resolutions.
It further urged coordinated international efforts to safeguard security and stability in the Horn of Africa.
