The United Arab Emirates has pledged a total of U$550million to support the UN’s Global Humanitarian Overview for 2026.

According to a presser, the pledge was made under the directives of the President of the UAE.

The initiative aims to raise U$33 billion to assist 135 million people across 23 humanitarian operations worldwide, with an immediate priority of protecting the lives of 87 million individuals in urgent need.

The pledge also seeks to reinforce the UAE’s longstanding commitment to international humanitarian action and its close cooperation with UN agencies, including OCHA, WHO, UNICEF, UNHCR, and the World Food Programme.

The funding is expected to provide critical support to vulnerable communities, refugees, and migrants, ensuring rapid access to lifesaving aid.

Her Excellency Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, emphasized that the contribution reflects the UAE’s belief in global solidarity and the importance of protecting human dignity.

UN officials, including OCHA’s Tom Fletcher, WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, UNICEF’s Catherine Russell, UNHCR’s Filippo Grandi, and WFP’s Cindy McCain, welcomed the announcement, highlighting its significance at a time when humanitarian needs are rising and funding gaps are widening.

The pledge further strengthens the UAE’s role as a key partner in global relief efforts, supporting stability and resilience in crisis-affected regions.
