Reliable sources have revealed to Taarifa Investigative Desk that Bars and night clubs will begin operating up to 3AM effective Monday.

According to our sources that preferred anonymity, Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has already prepared a presser to officially announce the extension of operating hours.

The announcement which was initially expected on December 4th, was briefly delayed at the request of law enforcement agencies.

The extended hours will apply to bars, nightclubs, restaurants, and shopping malls—establishments that have traditionally closed at 2:00 a.m.

With the festive season approaching, the move is expected to give a significant boost to nightlife operators, creating what many are calling a “Christmas bonanza” for night-time businesses.

According to information obtained by Taarifa, this adjustment will remain in effect throughout the festive period.

Also, discussions between RDB and relevant authorities are reportedly underway to explore the possibility of allowing 24/7 operations in the future.

The long-term intention is to stimulate economic activity, support entrepreneurs, and strengthen Rwanda’s positioning as a vibrant, tourist-friendly destination.

The current restrictions were introduced two years ago, reportedly to curb rising alcohol consumption. However, the impact has been widely viewed as damaging, with many businesses closing or downsizing, rising unemployment, and a growing number of establishments struggling to meet financial obligations.

Industry players also report a decline in Rwanda’s attractiveness as a nightlife and leisure destination.

If approved, a shift toward round-the-clock operations would mark a significant milestone in Rwanda’s efforts to revive its service and entertainment sectors while offering residents and visitors an even more dynamic urban experience.
