President Paul Kagame is in Doha where he joined fellow Heads of State and Government for the Second World Summit for Social Development, convened by the United Nations and hosted by the State of Qatar.
The high-level meeting, which runs from November 4 to 6, 2025, brings together world leaders to discuss social inclusion, decent work, and poverty eradication — key pillars of the UN’s global development agenda.
According to the Qatar News Agency, President Kagame was received upon arrival by Ibrahim bin Yousif Fakhro, the Director of the Protocol Department at Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside Rwanda’s Ambassador to Qatar, Igor Marara Kayinamura.
This year’s summit marks a significant moment, coming 30 years after the first World Summit for Social Development held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1995.
The Doha gathering seeks to renew commitments made then and adapt them to the challenges of the 21st century, particularly those linked to inequality, unemployment, and the social dimensions of sustainable development.
Over the three-day summit, global leaders are expected to reaffirm their support for inclusive growth and social justice, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Rwanda’s participation aligns with its continued efforts to promote human development, social protection, and equitable economic progress both nationally and across Africa.
