The African School of Governance (ASG) has announced the appointment of Francis Kabera Gatare as its new President, effective November 1, 2025.

The announcement was made by the ASG Governing Board, which praised Gatare’s deep understanding of the school’s founding vision and his long-standing involvement as a member of the Governing Board and leader of the technical team that shaped ASG’s strategic direction.

“I’m humbled and deeply honoured to step into this new role at the African School of Governance,” Mr. Gatare said.

“Having been part of ASG’s journey as a Board Member and inspired by its founders’ vision, I share their unwavering commitment to nurturing a generation of African leaders grounded in integrity, pursuit of excellence, and public service.”

Gatare currently serves as Senior Advisor to the President of the Republic of Rwanda and has previously held multiple senior positions within the Rwandan government, including as a Cabinet Member.

The ASG Founders, Governing Board, Foundation Council, and the wider ASG community congratulated him and expressed confidence in his leadership as the institution moves into its next phase of development.

Founded to transform leadership and governance across Africa, ASG operates as a graduate-level institution grounded in three pillars — education, research, and public policy.

It aims to equip a new generation of African leaders with the skills and ethical foundation to drive sustainable development and governance excellence.
