Rwanda aims to boost its tourism revenues to US$1.1 billion by 2029, underscoring the country’s ambition to become a leading destination for responsible and inclusive investment.
This goal was highlighted by Irène Murerwa, Chief Tourism Officer at the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), during her keynote address on “The Future of Investment in Rwanda’s Tourism Sector” at the International Business and Wellness Tourism Forum in Kigali, organized by Citisquare Africa in partnership with the Tourism Chamber.
Murerwa emphasized Rwanda’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in tourism, stressing that growth must go hand-in-hand with benefits for local communities and conservation efforts.
She outlined how the sector is increasingly attracting investors looking for opportunities that align with environmental stewardship and inclusive development.
“The future of tourism in Rwanda is not just about numbers,” Murerwa said. “It is about creating meaningful economic opportunities for our communities, protecting our natural and cultural heritage, and positioning Rwanda as a model for responsible tourism in Africa.”
With this vision, Rwanda is not only targeting higher revenues but also aiming to set global standards for community-centered and environmentally sustainable tourism, leveraging its unique wildlife, landscapes, and wellness offerings.
The forum brought together industry leaders, investors, and policymakers to discuss trends, investment opportunities, and innovations in business and wellness tourism across Africa, reinforcing Rwanda’s growing reputation as a hub for sustainable and inclusive tourism investment.
