Dr. Donald Kaberuka, former President of the African Development Bank and past Chair of the Global Fund Board, has been named a Gates Foundation 2025 Champion for his outstanding contributions to global healthcare.
Recognized during the #Goalkeepers2025 event in New York, Dr. Kaberuka was celebrated for his leadership in driving sustainable financing, building resilient health systems, and advocating for innovation in the way healthcare is managed, funded, and delivered.
In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Kaberuka expressed gratitude for the honor while highlighting the collective nature of the achievement.
“My profound thanks to the Foundation for this recognition. I do so in the name of many who have been part of this collective endeavour. The new complex global landscape means there is now even much more to do to ensure sustainability and resilience for the health of our people,” he said.
The Gates Foundation Champions program recognizes individuals making significant strides toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
Dr. Kaberuka’s recognition reinforces his continued role as one of Africa’s and the world’s leading voices in advancing healthcare equity and resilience.
