RwandAir has announced the launch of a new route connecting Kigali to Zanzibar and Mombasa, beginning December 1, 2025, just in time for the winter holiday season.
The new service will operate four times a week — on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays — using a Boeing B737 aircraft. The flights will provide travelers from Rwanda and beyond with direct access to two of East Africa’s most popular coastal destinations, renowned for their beaches, vibrant marine life, and world-class tourist attractions.
This expansion marks RwandAir’s return to Mombasa after halting operations there in 2019, while also introducing Zanzibar as a brand-new destination. With the addition, the airline now serves three cities in Tanzania and two in Kenya.
“The return to Mombasa and the introduction of Zanzibar represent another major milestone in our ambitious growth journey,” said RwandAir CEO Yvonne Makolo. “By expanding our East African network, we strengthen Kigali’s role as a strategic hub, offering our customers more opportunities to explore the region, while also boosting trade, tourism, and connectivity across East Africa.”
Recently named Africa’s Best Regional Airline by Skytrax, RwandAir says the new connection underscores its commitment to improving regional connectivity and enhancing the travel experience for its customers.
According to the airline, the schedule will be as follows:
- WB 444 will depart Kigali at 09:50, arriving in Zanzibar at 12:50. After a short stop, it will continue to Mombasa, landing at 14:35.
- WB 445 will depart Mombasa at 17:10, arrive in Zanzibar at 18:05, and continue to Kigali with a scheduled arrival at 20:00.
With convenient timings, the new service is expected to appeal both to leisure travelers seeking weekend getaways and to tourists planning longer holidays along East Africa’s picturesque coast.
