Cameroonian-French professional boxer Carlos Takam has launched the Carlos Takam Boxing Academy in Kigali, an initiative aimed at promoting and developing the sport of boxing in Rwanda and across Africa.
The academy, launched last week, according to an announcement by state house, established under the Carlos Takam Foundation, is meant to promote and develop the sport of boxing in Africa.
It will provide training, mentorship, and opportunities for aspiring boxers to develop their skills professionally.
Following the launch, Carlos Takam met with President Paul Kagame, presenting him with an original WBC World Champion belt as a tribute to Rwanda and the mission of the Foundation.
The meeting highlighted the shared vision of using sports to inspire youth, foster discipline, and nurture talent across the continent.
Carlos Takam, a renowned heavyweight boxer with a distinguished professional career in Europe and internationally, has competed at the highest levels of the sport, including multiple WBC-sanctioned bouts.
Through his foundation and the Kigali academy, Takam seeks to empower young Africans through boxing, offering structured pathways for athletic and personal development.
The Carlos Takam Boxing Academy marks a significant milestone for Rwanda’s sports sector, reinforcing the country’s growing role as a hub for athletic excellence and youth empowerment in Africa.
