The 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali reached a dramatic high on its sixth day as 17-year-old Harry Hudson of the United Kingdom clinched gold in the Men’s Junior Road Race, completing the 119.3-kilometre course in 2 hours 55 minutes and 19 seconds.
The race began with 141 riders from 71 countries, but the grueling pace and challenging Rwandan terrain took its toll, with 43 riders dropping out before the finish.
Early in the race, USA’s Drake Beckam surged ahead, opening a 55-second gap on the peloton as the competitors circled the Kigali Convention Centre for the fourth time.
Spectators lined the route to witness Kigali showcase its striking natural beauty and vibrant tourist attractions under the global spotlight of #Kigali2025.
Among the highlights of the course was the Nyarutarama green running track, a 2.4-kilometre trail designed for fitness enthusiasts and competitive runners, located on the outskirts of the Kigali Golf Course.
Hudson’s victory crowns a thrilling day for the championships and underscores Kigali’s growing reputation as a world-class host for international sporting events.
