RDF soldier Sgt. Sadiki Emmanuel was arrested Wednesday night after accidentally crossing into Burundi near Gasenyi-Nemba.
The Burundian authorities claimed in a statement that he was intoxicated and had strayed 700 meters into Busoni commune and is now held at Kirundo Police Station.
The Rwanda Defense Forces said in a statement that, “We regret this unfortunate common border incident and will undertake necessary diplomatic actions with the Government of Burundi to bring the soldier back home.”
