The DRC’s former President Joseph Kabila Kabange is scheduled to learn his fate on Friday when the Military High Court will convene to deliver its ruling in a senstive treason case.
The High Military Court will deliver its verdict this Friday, September 12, according to local press in the country.
It should be remembered that the public prosecutor at a hearing on 22 August, requested the death penalty for Mr Kabila and asked the judges to order the seizure of the former President’s assets, his costs, imprisonment and immediate arrest.
The trial has been held in the absence of the defendant Joseph Kabila.
The former head of state is accused of several offenses, including treason, participation in an insurrectionist movement (AFC/M23), conspiracy, and advocacy of terrorism.
This procedure follows the injunction issued by the Minister of Justice, which led to an indictment addressed to the Senate, which voted to open proceedings.
These allegations, made by the government of President Félix Tshisekedi, have been strongly contested by close associates to the former president, who denounced “political persecution” orchestrated to remove an influential rival.
The plenary session, held at the Palais du Peuple in Kinshasa, was held without Kabila himself.
