The Rwandan government has confirmed that it has received seven migrants relocated from the United States, according to government spokesperson Yolande Makolo.

Meanwhile, The Guardian reported that Rwanda has officially acknowledged the arrival of the group under agreements signed between Kigali and Washington regarding the relocation of certain migrants.

Other countries participating in similar arrangements include South Sudan and Eswatini.

Makolo told The Guardian: “The first group of migrants arrived in Rwanda in mid-August. Three of them expressed a desire to return to their home countries, while the other four chose to start and continue their lives here in Rwanda.”

Earlier in August 2025, Makolo had informed international media that Rwanda is prepared to receive up to 250 migrants from the United States.

Those arriving will be offered training programs to help them develop skills, access healthcare, and secure housing.

The relocation program between Kigali and Washington comes after a similar agreement with the United Kingdom fell through, following a decision by the UK government.

Rwanda has stated that it is implementing all measures required under the current agreements.

Regarding the migrants from the United States, reports indicate that Washington will provide financial assistance to help ensure the newcomers’ well-being, though the exact amount has not been disclosed.

The government has not yet released details such as the migrants’ names, gender, or nationality.
