Off-grid solar provider Bboxx has appointed Justus Mucyo as Chief Operating Officer, a move aimed at accelerating growth and improving operational efficiency across its African markets.

Mucyo, who previously led Bboxx Rwanda and Kenya, returns to the company after spearheading its expansion into multiple markets.

He will work alongside Group CEO Anthony Osijo and country Managing Directors to strengthen performance, boost profitability, and scale the company’s footprint.

With over a decade in the energy access sector, Mucyo also served as Chairman of the Solar sub-sector under Energy Private Developers, giving him broad industry expertise.

“Justus brings the right mix of strategic leadership and executional discipline,” said Osijo. “His return comes at a pivotal moment as we pursue new opportunities in clean energy, mobile technology, and e-mobility.”

Bboxx currently operates in eight markets, employing more than 3,000 people and reaching over 5 million customers with products ranging from solar home systems to smartphones and financial services.

Mucyo said his focus will be on profitability, sustainability, and tailoring products to market-specific demand. “We will adopt a more market-agnostic approach, ensuring each country focuses on its strongest opportunities,” he said.

Backed by its proprietary data-driven platform, Bboxx is positioning itself as one of Africa’s largest clean utility networks, seeking to capture rising demand for affordable essential services.
