Spiro, Mount Kigali University Sign Deal For Electric Mobility Solutions

Mount Kigali University in Rwanda on Friday entered an ambitious partnership with Spiro, a leading provider of electric transportation solutions.

According to details, the MOU aims to look into partnership with the university and specifically on upskilling the Rwandan Youth through Spiro Academy, a centre of excellence for EV training and competence.

“The agreement we have signed today allows us to buy electric bikes at very discounted prices,” said Kaushik Burman, Spiro Chief Executive Officer.

Kaushik Burman explained to Taarifa on Friday in the Capital Kigali, “we have partnered with the University’s research and development department. We are coming in to do applied research to find real market solutions.”

Under the partnership agreement, Mount Kigali University students will benefit from Internships and attachments to Spiro service points across the country.

The agreement described as multifaceted combines research, Internships, access to laboratories to conduct joint research and access by students to Spiro infrastructure.

“Our students will also get employed with Spiro once they complete their training at the university,” says Martin Kimemia the Vice Chancellor of Mount Kigali University.

Spiro is currently operating 22,000 electric motorbikes across seven countries in Africa. This revolution is inline with the UN SDGs, focusing on clean energy, sustainable cities, and climate action.

Compared to traditional petrol-powered vehicles, Spiro’s electric motorbikes help to significantly reduce carbon emissions.
