Nigeria’s Fintech ginat, Flutterwave, has rolled out a new referral program on its Send App, the cross-border remittance solution that allows users to send and receive money seamlessly across borders.

The program comes alongside the integration of Swap into Send App, enabling Nigerians to easily convert Naira into foreign currencies for smooth international money transfers.

Remittances remain a cornerstone of Africa’s growing digital payment economy, projected to reach US$1.5 trillion by 2030.

Nigeria plays a central role, with remittances from its diaspora totaling more than US$21 billion in 2024, highlighting their significance in sustaining households and fueling economic growth.

The new “Share and Earn” initiative rewards both senders and receivers. Nigerian users who refer others to complete their first transaction of at least ₦200,000 can earn up to ₦5,000.

For inbound transfers from the US, UK, and Europe, both parties benefit: senders receive up to US$20, £20, or €20, while receivers in Nigeria get up to ₦5,000, subject to terms and conditions.

“Send App is more than just a remittance product for us at Flutterwave,” said Flutterwave Founder and CEO, Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola.

“It goes even beyond incentives. We’re empowering our users to be direct champions of economic opportunity, making it even easier and more rewarding to send money across borders and within Nigeria for essential things like healthcare, tuition, and even summer vacations.”

The program’s launch comes at a strategic time as families prepare for back-to-school expenses, tuition fees, and holiday travel.

It also follows Send App’s summer campaign, which offered users tips, guides, and promotions to maximize the value of their transfers during the holiday season.

Senior Product Manager at Flutterwave, Temiloluwa Adesina, emphasized the role of trusted recommendations in adoption: “We understand the vital role that trusted word-of-mouth plays in our community.

The Share and Earn referral program is designed not only to reward our loyal users but also to empower them to share the invaluable experience of seamless and secure money transfers with their networks.”

Flutterwave, which has processed more than 890 million transactions valued at over US$34 billion, continues to expand its footprint across Africa and beyond.

The company operates in 34 African countries and works with global brands including Uber, Air Peace, Bamboo, and PiggyVest.
