On behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, the Army Chief of Staff (ACOS) yesterday represented Rwanda at the United States Africa Command (US AFRICOM) change of command ceremony.

The event marked the handover of leadership from the outgoing AFRICOM Commander, Gen Michael E. Langley, to the incoming Commander, Gen Dagvin R.M. Anderson.

The ceremony was presided over by the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, the Rwandan ACOS held discussions with Gen Anderson, focusing on the long-standing bilateral military cooperation between Rwanda and the United States.

The two also explored areas of common interest aimed at strengthening security collaboration.

Rwanda maintains strong defence and security cooperation with AFRICOM, particularly in areas of peacekeeping, counterterrorism, training, and capacity building.

The change of command ceremony provided an opportunity to reaffirm these ties and chart new avenues of partnership under Gen Anderson’s leadership.
