MTN Rwanda has reported 7.8 million total subscribers, 5.6 million active Mobile Money (MoMo) users, and Rwf 137.4 billion in service revenue in the first half of 2025, alongside a historic milestone: the commercial launch of Rwanda’s first-ever 5G network.
The telecom giant’s active data subscribers reached 2.4 million, while data revenue grew 10.1 percent to Rwf 23.3 billion.
EBITDA rose to Rwf 56.1 billion, with the margin improving by 9.1 percentage points, and profit after tax rebounded to Rwf 6.3 billion, recovering from a loss in the same period last year.
“With the successful launch of 5G, accelerated 4G migration, and relentless focus on cost efficiencies, we are positioning MTN Rwanda to lead the market in both relevance and resilience,” said Ali Monzer, CEO of MTN Rwanda.
The rollout of 5G in June 2025 is a landmark achievement in Rwanda’s digital transformation, aligned with Vision 2050 and national strategic priorities.
MTN says next-generation connectivity will drive innovation, enhance public and private sector service delivery, and support inclusive economic participation across urban and rural communities.
MoMo Rwanda also posted strong results, with revenue up 29.1 percent to Rwf 68.6 billion and active merchants rising nearly 30 percent to 572,000.
Transactions totaled 1.4 billion, worth Rwf 21.9 trillion, reflecting the platform’s growing role in financial inclusion.
MTN Rwanda’s community initiatives continued through the “21 Days of Y’ello Care” campaign, which provided smartphones to 100 community health workers on Bugarura Island, 100 solar kits to improve connectivity, and digital skills training for over 300 people.
Looking ahead, MTN Rwanda plans to sustain growth through continued investment in network infrastructure, fintech services, and digital adoption, delivering long-term value for shareholders and stakeholders alike.
