Kigali, July 19, 2025 — The Inspector General of Police, CG Felix Namuhoranye, has urged Rwandan youth to take greater responsibility in preventing crime by making sound personal choices and becoming agents of positive change.
Speaking to participants of Itorero Indangamirwa Cohort 15 during a session focused on “Youth and Crime,” the IGP emphasized that young people are disproportionately involved in criminal activities compared to adults, and challenged them to become part of the solution.
“Youth are more involved in crime than adults,” Namuhoranye said. “But you can be part of the solution. Focus on the right things.”
The police chief outlined five key actions that young people can take to avoid falling into criminal behavior:
- Choose positive and responsible peer groups
- Engage in productive activities such as sports, arts, and school clubs
- Seek guidance from the right adults—parents, guardians, and role models
- Participate in community service
- Develop emotional intelligence to navigate life’s challenges
He concluded with a clear message: “Your future equals your choices. Choose right.”
The Indangamirwa civic training program gathers young Rwandans from both within the country and the diaspora to reinforce values of patriotism, discipline, and social responsibility.
The latest cohort, Indangamirwa 15, is currently undergoing intensive training at the Nkumba Peace and Leadership Centre.
