The Chinese Embassy in Rwanda on Friday commemorated the 98th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China, with a ceremony that highlighted the growing military ties between China and Rwanda.

Speaking at the celebration, Maj Gen Alex Kagame, Chief of Staff of the Rwanda Reserve Force, reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to strengthening military-to-military cooperation and promoting deeper mutual understanding between the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and the PLA.

“We value our strategic partnership with China,” Maj Gen Kagame said. “As we mark this important milestone in the history of the PLA, we also recognize the importance of enhancing our collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including peacekeeping, training, and defense modernization.”

The PLA, established in 1927, has grown to become one of the world’s largest and most technologically advanced armed forces.

Its engagement with Rwanda reflects a broader China-Africa military cooperation agenda that includes capacity building and regional security support.

Chinese officials at the event praised Rwanda’s professionalism and commitment to regional stability and reiterated China’s readiness to continue supporting Rwanda’s defense and development goals.

The ceremony served as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two nations and their shared aspiration for peace, development, and global cooperation.
