From a distance, it is a giant mountain gorilla mother holding her baby and cuddling in a protective way like all mothers do in extending their love to their babies.
This is the stage built by locals using local materials where the Kwita Izina is taking place in Kinigi, Musanze district about 3 hours drive out of Kigali the capital of Rwanda.
President Paul Kagame who is also at the site of this event has been a regular at the Gorilla naming ceremony popularly known as Kwita Izina in Kinyarwanda language. This year’s event is the 15th edition since this ceremony was first unveiled.
25 baby mountain gorillas are getting names today given to them by global celebrities, philanthropists and conservationists including a Rwandan man Niringiyimana Emmanuel that has been digging hills to create a road to connect to his village.
