Kagame Expected In Yokohama For Japan-Africa Summit

President Paul Kagame is expected in Yokohama, Japan, for the 7th edition of the two-day Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD) summit.

The summit begins Wednesday.

The President will join 12 other African heads of state that have confirmed participation at Japans largest international conference that attracts more than 5000 participants.

“Good to be back in Japan, in Yokohama to attend the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on Africa-n Development (TICAD7),” said Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ahead of the summit.

Preceding the summit, Rwanda and Japan held an ICT and Innovation forum on Monday.

Nduhungirehe says the partnership between African countries and Japan remains concrete and strong, mainly in infrastructure, agriculture, ICT and human resources.

During TICAD 6th, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, disclosed that Africa would benefit from a $30 billion investment package by 2018 including a $10 billion investment in infrastructural development.

This summit (TICAD) provides a platform for critical global collaboration in support of African sustainable, stable economic growth and development, gathering heads of state and representatives from government, international/regional organizations, civil society, and the private sector.

The conference led by the Japanese government and co-sponsored by the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Commission (AUC) and the World Bank.

African leaders whose attendance is confirmed include;

  • Emmerson Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe
  • Faure Gnassingbe, Togo
  • Mahamadou Issoufou, Niger
  • Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Ghana
  • Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria
  • Cyril Ramaphosa, South Africa
  • Ibrahim Boubakar Keita, Mali
  • Edgar Lungu, Zambia
  • Macky Sall, Senegal
