Thousand Hills rugby club will battle arch-rivals Lion de Fer in the final of 2019 national rugby league scheduled to take place on Saturday August 31, 2019 at Red Cross Ground, Kacyiru.
The Gatenga based rugby team booked a ticket to the final after edging Muhanga Thunders by 27-6 points in the semi-final game played over the weekend at Kacyiru.
Hills head coach Jimmy Mugabo plan paid off in the first half of the game, when he resorted to rest his experienced players like Carlos Isimbi, Heritier Habimana and winger Prince Thierry Uwamahoro to give a chance to youngsters who managed to score two tries and penalty in the first half.
Hills president Shema Serge believes that the win against Muhanga Thunders is a build-up to the final which is expected to be a tough game against Lion de Fer.
“Our next plan is to prepare for the final, Lion de Fer is a tough side but we shall take them on,” he admitted
In the other semi-final that was played on same ground, Lion de Fer dispatched Resilience Rugby Club from Rusizi by 21-17 points.
Hills will be looking to lift the title for the third time, while victory for Lion de Fer will be history in the making since they have never won the trophy.
Kigali Sharks rugby club won the trophy last year.
