The Car Free Zone area was packed on Friday, as crowds gathered here to attend a free concert which will be organised at the end every last Friday ending the month by the City of Kigali in a bid to keep its residents entertained.
The first day of the concert featured a coveted array of artistes such as Francois Nsengiyumva aka Igisupusupu and many more such as Bruce Melodie, Makanyaga, and Iganze band who performed some of their most popular songs and dances.
The concert brought together both contemporary and traditional dance performances.
Attendees were all very excited and bade that this event may be held as often as possible in order to keep them entertained at the end of every Friday, when they need to have and relax.
One of the attendees Jacques Mugisha said that he was very elated to see some of the artistes that he used to hear sing on the radio performing live such as Igisupusupu and Bruce Melodie who, he said, are his favourites.
“We are really happy. I wish this concert were held every weekend because it will keep us entertained and stress-free,” he said.
Meanwhile, the City of Kigali who are the organisers of this carnival said they observed that it is befitting that Rwandans be entertained while at the same time revering their culture.
The city’s Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Development, Parfait Busabirwa told attendees that the concert was pilot and promised them that it will be further enhanced with the wishes of the residents.
“As the City of Kigali, we want to hold this concert on every Friday ending the month and then you will suggest your favourite artistes you want us to perform on stage,” he said.
Busabirwa also promised that the venue of the festivity will be extended to more parts of the city depending on the comments from the turn-ups.
