GS Kinihira knocks off Doctrina College with a mammoth score of 121 with 3 balls and 4 wickets in hand to win the 2019 Girls Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament title.
Nine Schools took part in this year’s Interschools Cricket tournament which kicked off from 19-23, July at Gahanga Stadium and Kicukiro Cricket Ground.
Doctrina College won the toss and opted to bat first posting 121 /7 in 20 overs, Gisele Ishimwe managed a decent score of 47 runs off 57 balls with four fours, team captain Henriette Ishimwe (c) picked 36 runs off 27 balls with five fours.
In return, Kinihira managed to chase for 122/6 in 19.3 overs, wicket-keeper Berena Nyisabiteka picked 19 runs off 18 balls, both team captain Josiane Nyirankundineza (c) and Jeanette Mukandayisenga contributed 18/20 and 16/33 respectively.
Both teams had meant in the first opening stages by Doctrina College won by super over.
GS Kinihira reached the finals after beating GS Ndera by 5 wickets, while Doctrina College faced off GS Gahanga by 10 wickets.
In the other games played during the six-day tournament, FAWE Girls lost by 9 wickets to Doctrina College, GS Kicukiro beat Regina Pacis by 5 wickets/
FAWE Girls yet again suffered another defeat when lost by 10 wickets to Kinihira the champions, as GS Ndera beat GS Ntarama by 8 wickets and GS Mwulire beat Ntarama by 7 wickets.
According to Rwanda Cricket Association, RCA the tournament will be used as a talent identification platform to select 24 players to form U19 Girl’s team that will start training to represent Rwanda in upcoming tournaments.
