Cyprien Nkundizanye, a resident in Burera District was found dead on a rope after scuffle with his wife.
The death of the 33-year-old man who lived in Kabashotsi Village, Nyamabuye Cell, Kagogo Sector became known on the night of July 15, 2019.
Nkundizanye decided to commit suicide after a fight with his wife, Consolée Ingabire.
According to witnesses, while the couple were scuffling, local leaders came to reconcile them and requested the woman to seek accommodation somewhere elsewhere until in the morning to calm down the tempers.
When they arrived in the morning, they found that the man was hanging dead in the rope.
Kagogo Sector Executive Secretary Louis Butoyi said that they were surprised by this incident because the family used to have no disputes before.
“It is true. We have been informed that he committed suicide. It was preceded by a dispute between the wife and her husband. Their village leader, requested the woman to find another place to spend the night until following morning when the problem would be solved. In the morning when they came back to solve the problem they found out that he was hanging dead,” he said.
He added that they were surprised by this incident because this family didn’t have conflicts before and they were not among the 18 households from the sector who have reported domestic conflicts.
He urged citizens to share information earlier when they get to know of families with conflicts.
He further urged the public to try other means of solving problems and not a decision to take away their own lives.
Meanwhile, the victim left behind a wife and two children.
His body was taken to Ruhengeri Hospital for postmortem.
