Volkswagen Launches Ride Hailing Service In Rwanda

  • Volkswagen Mobility Solutions Rwanda introduces a ride hailing service, Move Ride
  • Ride hailing fleet includes Polo, Passat and Teramont

Finally German carmaker, Volkswagen, launched their ride hailing service, Move Ride, run by Mobility Solutions Rwanda, that allows users in Kigali to request a taxi using a smartphone App.

Move Ride is part of the Volkswagen Mobility Solutions Rwanda‘s Move App, an innovative IT mobility solution which was developed by a local IT start-up company, Awesomity Lab.

Other mobility solution services offered on Move App platform include Move Share, a corporate car sharing service and soon to be launched, Move Drive, a community car sharing service.

Move Ride will use a fleet of vehicles assembled at Volkswagen Rwanda’s assembly facility in Kigali. At launch, the fleet will include Polo, Passat and Teramont.

Move Ride App works on Apple iOS and Android smartphones.

The App operates similarly to popular international taxi hailing platforms which use GPS location.

Customers are able to track and monitor requested journeys as well as pricing.

With Move Ride, people in Kigali are already enjoying a convenient, safe and fully transparent A to B transportation.

“To date, we have more than 12 500 registered users with over 9 800 rides requested since our pilot launch in October 2018. Since December 2018, Move Ride has averaged 120 rides per day,” said Michaella Rugwizangoga, CEO of Volkswagen Mobility Solutions Rwanda.

“Our Move Ride service will be available 24/7 and will complement existing modes of transport in Kigali. It will help to improve road safety whilst giving our customers a personalised service offered by our App. We want our customers to enjoy a service that allows them to move at their own beat,” said Rugwizangoga.

There are different payment methods available to customers which include mobile money and credit/debit cards.
