Police in Bugesera District have recovered US$9, 600 (approximately Rwf8.5 million), which is part of the money that had been stolen from a local businessman.
The money, which is part of US$10, 000 stolen on Tuesday, was recovered from two suspects shortly after the victim reported to Police.
“The victim; Emmanuel Kayonga had gone to audit his bar located in Batima Cell, Rweru Sector, he had a scuffle with one of his employees and in the process they were surrounded by people including customers that were in the bar; in that fracas US$10, 000 was stolen from him,” Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Theobald Kanamugire, the Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, said.
“When police officers arrived they searched everyone who was in the bar, and they recovered US$9, 600 from two customers, who were immediately taken into custody,” CIP Kanamugire said.
He identified the suspects as Japhet Mutuyimana, 28, and Francois Ntahondereye, 42, who were handed over to Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB).
If found guilty, suspects may face imprisonment for a term of one to two years and a fine of between Rwf1 million and Rwf2 million, community service in a period of six months or only one of these penalties.
