Bank of Kigali To Inject Rwf300M Into Basketball League

FERWABA, the Rwanda Basketball Federation has secured a sponsor of the National League, PlayOffs Pre-Season, and youth talent development program.

The deal was signed this November 23, 2018 between BK CEO, Diane Karusisi and Desire Mugwiza, the Federation president.

Commenting about the agreement, Dr Karusisi said: “We are happy to join hands with the federation in support of the government initiative to transform sports activities into economic pillars.

“We want to work with FERWABA to take basketball to another level. With a strong focus on youth talent development I am confident that we shall develop world-class caliber players and make basketball a very popular game in Rwanda” Karusis said.

This sponsorship and broadcasting rights partnership was signed this Friday 23rd November 2018 at Bank of Kigali Headquarters.

The sponsorship could be extended for an additional two years until 2021taking the sponsorship value to Rwf300 million.

Dr. Karusis added that “As part of our contributions to the society and youth development, we are joining our cool brand to this cool game. After the first year together with the federation and basing on the success of the first year, we shall consider extending the partnership for an additional two years.”

According to the agreement, Bank of Kigali shall provide Rwf100 million every year with a breakdown: Rwf80 million for technical organization of the basketball National League, PlayOffs Pre-Season, and youth talent development while Rwf20 million will be for rewarding and sponsoring best players and best teams.

The tournament shall be renamed to BK Basketball National League and playoffs.

Dr. Diane concluded by saying: “Bank of Kigali as a brand is now focused on digital solutions and we will work with the youth, the basketball players and sports community in general to promote digital financial services in line with our cashless campaign ‘singombwakashi’. “
