Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) strategy is Rwanda’s approach to creating value in the tourism sector, the country’s largest foreign exchange earner.
This is an area that is playing an important role in Rwanda’s growth, bringing in 15% of all tourism revenue.
MICE tourism contributed US$42 million in 2017, with aim to increase it to US$74 million in 2018.
Rwanda recorded 28,308 delegates in 2017, up from 23,804 in 2016.
Nelly Mukazayire, the in-coming CEO of the Rwanda Convention Bureau (RCB), a strategic business unit of Rwanda Development Board’s Tourism and Conservation Department comes to face the uphill task of milking every little from the global tourism market.
The young CEO assumed this responsibility in a recent reshuffle and was handed over office on Tuesday evening.
“I am thankful to the appointing authorities for the new role. I look forward to continue working with Denise Benzinge Omany and meeting the team at RCB to build more for the MICE industry,” she said.
