Rwanda’s First Lady To Attend UN General Assembly

The office of Rwanda’s First Lady, Mrs Jeannette Kagame, announced on Monday that Her Excellency will be attending the 73rd United Nations General Assembly, scheduled from 24 to 27 September 2018, in New York, USA – where she will be accompanying the President Paul Kagame.


In a press brief, her office said that in the margins of UNGA, along with her fellow First Ladies, members of the Organisation of African First Ladies Against HIV/AIDs (OAFLA), Her Excellency will be attending and contributing to the following events:
  • OAFLA 21st General Assembly
    “Transforming Africa through Prioritizing Children, Adolescents and Mothers in the Fight against HIV” – 15h00-18h00 – 24 September (around 9pm Kigali time)
  • High Level fundraiser under the theme “Free to shine: Global partnerships towards eliminating Mother-to-Child transmission of HIV in Africa” -08h30-11h00 – 25 September (around 2:30pm Kigali time)
  • OAFLA Panel Discussion: Breast and Cervical Cancer in Africa – 08h30-11h00 – 26 September (around 2:30pm Kigali time)
During these events, the First Lady will express her vision for OAFLA and Rwanda’s specific contribution to the efforts of the organisation as well as share highlights from the Free to Shine Campaign in Rwanda, with a focus on the elimination of Mother-To-Child Transmissions of HIV.
