Six Congolese were killed and dozens of livestock looted in an attack attributed to alleged ADF rebels since Friday night to Saturday in the city of MayiMoya, in the Beni territory of North Kivu.
Fighting between suspected rebels ADF and FARDC began Friday at 19h.
According to local civil society groups, six people were hacked to death and the toll could increase as the local population and the army continue the search operations.
The attackers would have infiltrated first in the city before launching the assault sources said.
The spokesman for the operations Sokala 1 Grande Nord operational sector did not confirm this report but rather admitted there was a clash between the army and the ADF rebels.
Civil society organizations in Beni territory have called for evaluation of the rebels and want full military intervention in the area. The rebels are feared to be getting stronger and larger in numbers.
Beni’s civil society groups are asking FIB, MONUSCO and the FARDC to readjust their strategies.
