The Archdiocese of Kinshasa has denied that one of its cardinals has intentions of running for presidency in the forthcoming elections scheduled for December.
Speaking to Radio France International via telephone, Cardinal Monsengwo Laurent Pasinya said; “I have never applied for the presidency of the Republic. I have something else to do.”
However, some groups of many Congolese citizens began a process towards making the cardinal to be their candidate for the next presidential election.
According to former minister Odette Babandoa, “the prelate corresponds to the image of a man of integrity, good manager to run the country.”
In a statement, the custodians of the Catholic Church had assured that “Cardinal Monsengwo is not a candidate for the presidency of the Republic, nor the post of administrator of a possible transition”.
