President Joseph Kabila of the Democratic Republic of Congo is expected to address Parliament both chambers Thursday Afternoon.
Parliament invited President Kabila to reassure the country and the international community that he will honour the pledge of not seeking re-election in the December presidential polls.
“President Joseph Kabila is called to reassure the national opinion and the international community on his willingness to respect the agreement of December 31 and the Constitution, and to commit to give up his chair after the elections of the December 23rd,” reported Radio France Internationale.
But until then, the agreement negotiated under the mediation of the Catholic bishops has had difficulty to be applied as it is.
Congolese opposition denounces the unilateral revisions of certain points of the agreement and the policy of poaching which consists in integrating certain opponents, including the current Prime Minister, into a Common Front for Congo.
