For more than 20years, Ethiopia did not in anyway fly over Eritrea because the two countries have been in a state of war for this entire period.
However, Ethiopia’s national carrier flight ET0312 on Wednesday departed from Bole International Airport to neighbouring Asmara.
“This day marks a unique event in the history of Ethiopia and Eritrea,” the Airline Chief executive Tewolde GebreMariam said.
Within a span of 15minutes the Ethiopian national carrier operated two flights due to overwhelming demand.
“The fact that we are taking two flights at a time, shows how people are eager,” said Tewolde.
