A total of 862 Police officers have completed a basic training course at the Gishari based Police Training School in Rwamagana district.
This is the 14th edition of its kind. Among the newly passed out officers include 160 females.
Busingye Johnston the Justice Minister has conferred upon them a rank of ‘Police Constable’.
“The development that our country strives for can only be archived if security and justice is preserved and the Police are at the forefront in ensuring this,” he said.
Minister Busingye said the training is an indication of government commitment to professionalizing the Police force and taking police services closer to the people and ensuring that public safety and security are guaranteed at all times.
The Minister said the Police’s training is one of the best ways to ensure that the law is respected and offenders are brought to justice. Knowledge and skills based policing guarantees professionalism and service excellence.
CP JM Nshimiyimana, the commandant of Gishari PTS congratulated the new officers upon completion of the course and for exhibiting high level of discipline, respect, determination and perseverance throughout the 9-months of training.
“The trainees were equipped with Police duties and responsibilities, community policing, drills, peacekeeping, law, martial art and shooting among others,” He said.
