Climate Financing Dominates Brussels Meeting

Rwanda is represented at the ongoing second ministerial meeting on climate action taking place in Brussels, Belgium.

Dr. Vincent Biruta Rwanda’s Minister of Environment is attending this meeting which is discussing; The Paris Agreement, Climate Finance, the Pre-2020 stock take.

Rwanda has been at the forefront of establishing a green economy and has put in place Green Fund; a ground-breaking environment and climate change investment fund.

Through Climate financing developed economies partially fund or invest in sustainable development projects in developing economies to encourage carbon-neutral development.

Developed countries have an important role of mobilizing $100 billion of climate finance per year by 2020, which will enable developing countries to raise the level of ambition of their mitigation and adaptation actions further.

Meanwhile, in December of 2015 countries across the globe ratified the Paris Agreement which sets out a global action plan to put the world on track to avoid dangerous climate change by limiting global warming to well below 2°C.

This meeting is organized by Canada, China and the European Union.
