Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) ladies team has secured a ticket to the semifinals after winning three of the four games it has played in the ongoing 8th genocide memorial tournament in Kigali.
The KCB ladies volleyball club that represents Kenya in the competition organized by the Rwandan Volleyball Federation (FRVB) will face Rwanda’s APR this Sunday at Amahoro Stadium in the semis.
KCB are grouped in pool B won three of the four games staged at Kimisagara Youth Centre, on Saturday, as they started by defeating Ruhango Volleyball Club 3-0, the first set having finished 30-28, followed by 24-16 and 23- 17.
The next game pitted the bankers with Rwandas Revenue Authority in a pulsating clash that lasted two hours.
KCB won easily the first set against the Rwandan side that came back strongly in the second half to wrestle a set against KCB.
The third set witnessed a great array of talent that saw KCB lose the final set to the RRA.
KCB ladies volleyball club played their third game in which they beat Kigali Volleyball Club 3-1. The young Kenyan side played their fourth and final game of day one of the tournament that saw them edge out IPRC Kigali 3-1.
KCB Bank Rwanda Managing Director George Odhiambo lauded the team on their performance adding that the Bank is commited to nurturing of sports talent in the region.
“We are delighted to have KCB ladies participating in this year’s international tournament , it is a great exposure for our players who are aiming for continental volleyball glory “, said Odhiambo.
Odhiambo commended the job the Rwandans have done in the reconciliation and rebuilding the nation.
He said during the last 10 years KCB operating in Rwanda, the regional bank “has had a participation in rebuilding the nation through supporting the businesses that rebuild the economy.”
“KCB has supported big infrastructure projects and so many other businesses that are growing and employing people and young people that we are supporting to go back to school and those we are employing directly. That is our contribution and we are going to continue contributing,” added Odhiambo.
KCB ladies volleyball club, this Sunday, face APR in the semifinals while Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) clash with Nkumba University from Uganda after which winners will face in the final.
