If you own an idle plot of land in Tanzania’s commercial Capital Dar es salaam, you have only 60 days to initiate a construction project.
Owners of these idle plots risk their land titles revoked according to the ultimatum issued by the country’s Ministry of Lands, Housing and Settlement development.
According to the government, there are a total of 40000 idle plots that were sold to private individuals, institutions and companies between 3003 and 2008.
“Most of these plots have remained undeveloped since the process was accomplished, which is contrary to the law,” said Dorothy Mwanyika the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry.
According to the country’s laws, the president of the country has a mandate to revoke ownership of land that has been abandoned for more than two years.
