Rwanda Deposits AfCFTA Instruments At AU

Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Louise Mushikiwabo, deposited on Saturday,  the instruments of ratification of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to the African Union.

Rwanda follows Ghana and Kenya who already submitted their instruments.

However, at least 19 ratifications out of the 44 who signed in Kigali, have to be submitted before entry into full force of the AfCFTA.

While there, Minister Mushikiwabo,  also delivered the Protocol to the Abuja Treaty on the Free Movement of People, Right of Establishment and Right of Residence, making Rwanda the first country to deposit the instrument.

As for the free movement of people protocol, 27 countries already signed from Kigali and it is upon their sovereign need to implement what the instrument provides for.
