In a colourful ceremony, hosted at the magnificent Kigali Convention Center, the University of Tourism Technology and Business Studies (UTB) ushered 522 graduates into the job market.

The 4th graduation has come at a time when the job market is thirsty for careers in tourism, IT and business among many others.

The hospitality industry now has 286 more professionals coming in, 76 in Business and Information Technology and 160 graduates who trained in vocational careers will also enter the job market.

Rene Christian Nshogoza was the best student in business information technology and Izere Desiree as best student in Travel and Tourism management.

Turatsinze Emmanuel emerged the best student in Hospitality and Restaurant Management and the best student in IATA was Ndegeya Cyrille.

Of all these 522, there were three graduates with a first class in business and information  technology.

Hospitality and tourism had seven with a first class and it was only in vocational training program with three great distinction.

Zulfat Mukarubega, the founder of UTB, who has changed the face of the hospitality industry in Rwanda, told graduates that much as they acquired the necessary training, it’s not enough to be of use unless they commit to exhibiting a culture of work ethic and personal ambition.

As the brain behind the first and only tourism university in the country, she said the university will continue offering quality education and the desired graduates.

The Vice Chancellor, Dr Kabera Callixte, said the university is determined to produce quality students, but students must play their role.

He said UTB is unequalled in terms of quality education in Rwanda and this is a position that must be defended by all means.

Meanwhile, Zulfat Mukarubega said the university is about to occupy its campuses which have been under construction.

“We thank President Paul Kagame for all these achievements,  without him we wouldn’t be here celebrating,” she said.
