Rwanda and Belgium held roundtable bilateral talks at the foreign affairs office in the capital Kigali.
With cooperation dating back in pre-colonial times the two countries still enjoy this attachment.
According to Foreign Affairs Ministry official tweeter handle, “Rwandan and Belgian delegates are meeting for the first round of Bilateral Political Consultations, on this Thursday, 24 May, 2018 in Kigali.”
Rwanda is the second largest receiver of Belgium direct development cooperation budget. Most of this funding helps Rwanda in boosting interventions focused on health, justice, education, agriculture and rural development.
Belgium has been steadily increasing its financing to Rwanda , for example in 2007 Belgium extended €32.5 million to support Rwanda, in 2010 this budget increased to €50.5 million.
In 2011 alone, Belgium increased financing to a tune of €160 million as Indicative Cooperation Programme (ICP) (2011 – 2014).
