Transform Africa Summit 2018 Kicks Off in Kigali

Kigali has woken up to the 4th edition of the Transform Africa Summit taking place at Kigali Convention centre  commencing May 7th up to 10th May.

Being an important summit, President Paul Kagame on Sunday combed through Hotel Radisson, Kigali Convention Centre, before the commencement of this gathering.

President Kagame wants to ensure that preparations are complete to host over 4000 delegates from 90 countries and the summit has attracted 100 exhibitors.

Just like in previous successful editions, the summit attracts Heads of State and Government, First Ladies, UN Broadband Commissioners, Ministers, Public and Private Sector, International organisations, Industry leaders, Investors, Entrepreneurs, Young innovators, Civil Society and Academia.

Transform Africa Summit a flagship event for Smart Africa, will be conducted under the theme ‘Accelerating Africa’s Single Digital Market’.

For Kagame who also doubles as Chairman of the Smart Africa Board believes that If technology is entrenching divides, rather than equalising opportunities, then it is not harnessed well.

“Access to technology information must also not distinguish between rich and poor. So long as women and girls are lagging behind then we are not on the right track. We must deliver on technology’s promise to bridge divides, rather than deepen them.”

He also said that the move towards an ICT and knowledge driven economy together intends to increase Africa’s competitiveness in the global economy.

Kagame believes that ICTs have the ability to level the global playing field, unlock human capital and harness its full potential.

Unique about this year’s summit is the First Transform Africa Economic Forum, a Government to Business engagement which will take place on 7 May 2018.

Meanwhile Ministers and Cabinet Secretaries at this forum will engage with a targeted audience of business leaders and high net worth investors on investment opportunities and areas of collaboration.

This summit is also informed by the recently signed Continental Free Trade Area agreement (CFTA) – thus the theme of the summit is a call to embrace one solution that will increase the pace at which we realise the benefits of the CFTA, this solution being “Digital” – A Smart CFTA.

President Paul Kagame made a visit to Hotel Radisson, Kigali Convention Centre, today before the commencement of the #TAS2018.
