RDF Takes Citizens Outreach Programme To Kamonyi

The Rwanda Defence forces on Monday took to fields in Kamonyi district at Mugina sector and planted onions on 76 hectares.

The activity was in line with the RDF Citizens Outreach Programme 2018.

The expansive mashland is cultivated by Mugina Sector residents grouped under COALIFIKA cooperative comprised of 591 members of whom women are 137.

The activity was officiated by Army Chief of Staff/ Land Forces  Lieutenant General Jacques Musemakweli and the Minister of Agriculture Dr. Gerardine Mukeshimana.

Speaking to residents of Mugina Sector, Lt Gen. Musemakweli said that durable security is when citizens have food security, “ that is why we came to help you enhance this through this activity to plant onions which you will sell and get the benefit to lift you out of poverty.”

He said since the country is peaceful, the army ensures  that  citizens have access to safe water, good education, good health through free medical care that RDF officers and will keep providing to the population countrywide until this program [RDF Citizen Outreach Program 2018] ends on July 4, the day our country celebrates liberation.”
